Transits & Forecasting
How planetary transits, progressions, and cycles connect with your natal chart to illuminate timing, opportunities, and the themes shaping your life right now and ahead.
Astrology predictions are grounded in the study of planetary movement — specifically, how the planets currently moving through the sky (transits) interact with the planets fixed in your natal chart at birth. These interactions activate different areas of your chart at different times, producing the rhythms and themes that astrology describes as cycles of growth, challenge, and change.
Understanding how to read astrological predictions means learning to distinguish short-term transits (the Moon moves in 2.5 days) from long-term ones (Pluto can sit in a sign for 20 years), and recognizing what type of transit you are in — a window of expansion, a period of consolidation, or a time of transformation.
"Astrology does not predict what will happen. It describes the energetic weather — the conditions and invitations present in a given period. What you do within those conditions is always yours to shape."
Every planet continues moving after the moment of your birth. When a transiting planet forms a significant angle (aspect) to a natal planet in your chart, that natal planet's themes are activated. The nature of the transit planet tells you what kind of activation it is; the natal planet tells you which part of your life and psychology is affected.
For example: transiting Jupiter conjunct your natal Venus activates your love life and values with expansion and opportunity. Transiting Saturn squaring your natal Sun creates a period of pressure, reality-checking, and the need to strengthen your identity and direction. Neither is inherently good or bad — each represents a season with a specific invitation.
Communication, decisions, and information flow. When Mercury transits your 3rd or 9th house, ideas and mental activity peak. Mercury retrograde invites review, revision, and revisiting past decisions.
Love, beauty, finance, and pleasure. Venus transiting your 5th, 7th, or 1st house creates a period of heightened social magnetism, romantic openness, and aesthetic sensitivity.
Drive, action, and desire. Mars energizes whatever house it transits — but can also bring conflict or impatience. Best used to initiate and push forward in aligned areas.
Expansion, opportunity, and optimism. Jupiter transits are among the most anticipated in forecasting — wherever it moves, it brings growth, possibility, and a sense of fortunate timing.
Structure, discipline, and testing. Saturn transits reveal what is solid and what needs rebuilding. Challenging but ultimately strengthening — the architect of lasting results.
Disruption, liberation, and sudden change. Uranus transits awaken — sometimes forcefully — wherever they touch. They break open stagnant patterns and open unexpected doors.
Spirituality, illusion, and dissolution. Neptune transits dissolve old forms and open the imagination. Brings inspiration and sensitivity — but also the need for discernment.
Deep transformation and power. Pluto transits are the longest and most thoroughgoing — wherever they reach, they excavate, transform, and rebuild from the ground up.
In secondary progressions, each day after birth is treated as symbolic of one year of life. So the planetary positions at 25 days old describe the themes of age 25. Progressions move slowly — the progressed Moon changes sign every 2.5 years — and track internal development rather than external events. They are often used alongside transits for a richer picture.
Solar arc directions move all natal planets forward at roughly one degree per year — the rate of the Sun's symbolic movement. When a solar arc planet reaches a natal planet or house angle, it activates major life themes. Many astrologers find solar arcs particularly accurate for timing significant external events and turning points.
A solar return chart is cast for the exact moment the Sun returns to its natal degree each year — around your birthday. It functions as an annual forecast chart, showing which themes, houses, and planets are most active for the coming twelve months. Reading it alongside your natal chart provides a detailed picture of the year ahead.
